Health Programs at Waredaca
Our farrier is Tom Parris and his associates. They visit Waredaca on a weekly basis. You may use your own farrier but it becomes your responsibility to assist or hold your horse. The worming and vaccination program we use is under the guidance and advice of Damascus Equine Associates, the veterinary group that handles our equine care at Waredaca. ALL worming and vaccinations will be given by DEA and the billing will be directly from Dr. Scullin to each of you. We believe this comprehensive approach will best maximize your horse's protection. It is most important that all the horses at Waredaca be on the same schedule to offer the best protection possible and minimize the problems of parasite re-infestation. Direct any further questions to Robert.
Those of you whose horses are cribbers, please provide your own cribbing strap; otherwise, we can provide one for your horse and bill you for the cost. Either way, these horses must wear straps.

Private turn out for medical reasons is available at an extra charge. Occasionally horses will join the "Chub Club"; reserved for those animals who require limited or restricted turnout for medical reasons. Again, this may be an additional charge. Horses are not turned out with boots unless specifically requested.
Waredaca does not carry any insurance on privately owned horses. Many of you carry individual insurance on your animals. It is recommended that you consider major medical coverage in addition to your mortality insurance. It is important that the name of the insurance company, company representative and policy number be on file in the office.
Also, if owners are going away, they MUST leave a telephone number where they can be reached and/or the name and telephone number of a local contact person responsible to make decisions in case of a true emergency. A written statement indicating emergency procedures to follow will also suffice. For example, how to intervene if your horse needs colic surgery in your absence. If your horse becomes ill, we will notify the vet and you, depending on the severity of the problem, and will perform whatever treatments, dispense medications and so on, as necessary. Waredaca personnel cannot authorize any emergency medical procedures and/or surgical treatments, or transport horses off the property in your absence.
