Quarterly/Summer 2009

Hi everyone!

Summer has arrived and we are welcoming the new season with the completion of the first TWO OUT OF FIVE Eventing competitions planned for this year.  Summer Camp is into their fourth out of eight weeks as are summer lessons.  The farm is a busy place!

SAVE THESE DATES:  MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW FOR THE

YARD SALE:  SATURDAY AUGUST 1 FROM 9-3

Bring any merchandise you wish to sell, ‘horse’ and non-horse alike!  Skip and Liz are bringing lots of salesmen samples-kitchenware, candles, giftware and so on.  Their prices will be 1/2 of their wholesale! Sounds like holiday shopping in August to me! As a reminder, everyone can participate, just bring your own tables, plan your own set up etc.  The grassy area around the flagpole will headquarter the sale.  Also, please tell all of your friends and neighbors!

BOARDERS AND STAFF BBQ/PICNIC ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 30 BEGINNING AT 4.
PAM AND PETE are supplying crabs and possibly live music!!!    YOU PROVIDE THE COMPANY PLUS WHATEVER SIDE DISHES OR DESSERTS YOU MIGHT WANT TO BRING!  WE WILL HAVE BEVERAGES.
Rain (we have an indoor!) or shine, this date is ON!!

HORSE TRIALS....
Our first RECOGNIZED event of the year was QUITE SUCCESSFUL!  Over 470 horses were entered to ride in the horse trials and young event horse classes!  Our Starter event 3 weeks later was equally successful and fewer entries gave us a busy but somewhat more relaxed day.
Thanks to all of you who volunteered and contributed directly to the success of the weekends!!   Your next opportunity is rapidly approaching—August 14-16.

Expect to be contacted by Liz or Katherine, once again our exceptional volunteer trackers!!    Lots of opportunities to volunteer too! Check out our VOLUNTEER PAGE outlining available jobs, days, times and so on.

Margaret, our sponsorship whiz, continues to create a true indoor trade fair that again, included Giffords Ice Cream at the last show! Not to be missed!!

The fall event dates are

• October 21 thru 24 for the Training 3 Day event
• October 24 and 25, the weekend sanctioned event
• November 1, Starter event
For each and every competition, we need people to set up the week before as well as assist during competition day.    Please call the office or speak to any staff member if you have an extra hour or two to share with us—it is greatly appreciated!

Waredaca is pleased to announce that we have just completed negotiations with the County and that our farm is now part of the Montgomery County Agricultural Preservation area, This means that the farm property will basically remain as such for years to come.

SUMMER SCHOOLING SHOWS.... the first was very popular and the second one, this week, promises to be the same! A perfect chance for a tune up!

See Gretchen for more details.

DON’T FORGET TO UPDATE THE OFFICE WITH ANY CHANGES TO YOUR
E-MAIL, CELL PHONES, WORK NUMBERS, AND AN EMERGENCY CONTACT NAME AND NUMBER…

Some reminders as summer continues....
• If you are going out of town, please leave important details that we may need—i.e., your contact info, dates out of the area, who is responsible for your horse etc in one of two places.... either in an email to waredaca@aol.com OR call the office and leave it with Janey 301 570 4191.
• Parking can be a problem on weekends and evenings!  We ask that boarders please NOT park by the indoor arena, leaving that area free for visiting lesson students.
• The GATES are NOT mounting blocks!! Use the fence or a mounting block but NEVER the metal GATES!!
• Remember that access in and out of the indoor arena means people using people doors and horses using the gates and NOT doors. Common sense here please!
• PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF AND YOUR HORSE!  There are pitchforks and wheelbarrows, brooms and trashcans in each barn; please use them!
• DO YOU RELISH THE THOUGHT OF MICE LIVING WITH YOU THIS SUMMER? If not, then keep all foodstuffs out of your lockers or you will have problems with mice and other rodents eating your tack and equipment!  Horse treats should be kept in a sealed container too!
• Now that camp is in session, dogs are welcome to visit ideally on the weekends when the farm is not as busy with other campers and visitors, preferably leashed but may NOT be in any of the rings or around other horses and people.
• Don’t forget to keep the lights OFF in the barn areas except in the late evening when they are truly needed.
• THANKS for closing the gates when you leave if close to dark—we appreciate it!

PET PEEVES.... around the barn..I need peeves from you!! I know they exist so don’t be bashful!! Please submit to GB via the website Email!

Enough said for now.  Thanks for all of your extra attention “around the edges” during this very busy time of the year.  Let’s keep Waredaca safe and pleasant for all!

Sincerely.....the STAFF at WAREDACA................
Robert, Gretchen, Janey, Rob, Gayle, and Steph
