Fall Quarterly O9.....
Hi everyone!
Summer is long gone according to the calendar and this seems to have been the WETTEST fall on record! None of us can remember the ground being so constantly saturated/!
Wasn’t the BOARDERS AND STAFF August BBQ/PICNIC a whole lot of fun!! When you mix great food with great people, the outcome is surely a good one! Pam and Pete set a precedent this year with the crabs!! And what a groaning board everyone else created that literally filled two huge tables in the dining hall! NO one left hungry!
A WARM WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST ‘FACES”
- Ron and Luba Abrams are now the proud new owners of Taylor Cede
- Catrin O’Shea is new to Maryland and Waredaca, previously from Wisconsin
- Karen Siegrist is returning with several horses beginning in December
The 2009 Eventing season finally came to an end with our Starter event held last Saturday, November 21. It did NOT rain, which was a first for Waredaca events this year although the extra inch of rain that occurred on Thursday was not felt necessary by anyone! The XC courses are now open and we will be putting portables away in the next few weeks.
Many many thanks to all of you who volunteered to support our events. They were definitely successful and we look forward to a similar roster for 2010-three recognized and two starter events on essentially the same dates as this year. The Training Level Three Day Event, the Classic, was again a popular and exciting competition that enjoyed good weather for a change!
Waredaca was also the host facility for two US Eventing Association activities...the Eventing Officials Training Program for Candidate Judges and the Instructor Certification Program for Level 1 Candidate instructors.
Looking ahead, Gayle has scheduled a Nicole Zuet and Daniel Stewart clinics for the winter season. Check out website OR the display board by the Show Office for more info. The Winter Lesson Schedule is up and soon to begin.
Several notes of interest as winter approaches....
Do you know about Daphne’s BOOK/VIDEO CLUB??? If not, just ask her!!
I believe?? A January meeting is soon to be announced.
GATES….if you are leaving and it is near dark, please close the driveway gates, upper AND lower; even if there are others here, it is a useful reminder that these gates are very important and need to be closed as darkness approaches; it could be your horse who gets loose and starts to wander!
LIGHTS….common sense please; lights are unnecessary during the daylight hours; in the evenings, please turn off any light that is not in use even if you didn’t turn it on—thanks!
IF YOU BREAK SOMETHING--please let us know; do not just leave it out there for a horse to step on, walk thru or whatever hazardous thing they might do!
Safeguard YOUR EQUIPMENT and keep you lockers secured; remember that Waredaca is NOT responsible for your personal items.
Please do NOT CLEAN TRAILERS into the dumpster or the lower parking lot; use the manure piles instead to avoid making an ugly mess.
Please WATCH YOUR SPEED and be extra cautious as you drive in and out of the various driveways; many people and LITTLE DOGS are close-by who are not always looking out for oncoming vehicles.
The UPPER Jumping Arena will be returned to the schooling jumping arena now that the competitions are finished. Please remember that the ring will be set at the beginning of each week with planned exercises, distances and lines etc.
Once the ring has been set, you may use the jumps and can adjust the heights but please do NOT change the distances or placement of the fences. The cups and pins MUST be either properly on the standards or in the metal bucket on the jump wagon. NOT ON THE GROUND!! Also when finished with the equipment please leave the ring in a courteous way for the next rider—not with random rails scattered all over the place and so on.
The BRIGHT COLORED PLASTIC RAILS are NOT TO BE USED AS TROTTING RAILS EVER AND PREFERABLY NOT AS GROUND LINES EITHER
If you are LEASING YOUR HORSE, please let Janey and Gayle know; also, any guests or friends who come and ride your horse, we ask that you have them sign a release form and place in either office for our records; thanks…
VETERINARY notes...When you schedule an appointment with the vet, please advise a Waredaca staff member of this and whether you plan to be present when your horse is being seen. We will assume that you will catch your horse and consult with the vet unless you indicate to us otherwise.
FALL DEER HUNTING SEASON....has begun. Safety tips....wearing something fluorescent orange during hunting season does make a huge difference. Stay in open areas where there is good visibility. Many riders sport a bell to let hunters know they are not a target!
