FALL 2010 BOARDER QUARTERLY
Hi everyone!
CHILLY weather and falling leaves…..our ‘indian summer’ days of late October are long gone BUT we enjoyed splendidly DRY weather for all three of the October events…T3D, the weekend horse trials and the Starter Halloween event! That has to be a ‘first’, at least over the past 7 years of doing the Training Three Day!!
We hope you all are planning to attend our Fall Fest Boarder Picnic beginning at 4 PM at the Activity Building in Friendship Woods, formerly Camp Friendship. This will give us the opportunity to ‘christen’ our ‘new to us’ building with a yummy evening with good friends and good food. We will have lots of drinks—sodas, wine, beer plus some paper goods, silverware and so on. Everyone can bring something to share and no one will leave hungry! Please rsvp to Gretchen at Waredaca@aol.com if you can come, what you might be bringing and the number of your party etc.
The activity building and dining hall at Friendship Woods will also be available as a meeting place. If you know of anyone or any group looking to rent a site for an upcoming holiday party or meeting, have them contact us for additional information.
NEW PLACES AND FACES
Katrina Maurer is now the proud owner of Centi
Cal ‘Easton’ has now joined Carly at college in NC
Warm welcome to Caitlin Fertig and her horse Clifford, new residents in the Red Barn; you might also see her mom, Laura watching her ride from time to time as well
Dale and Lex are being retired to greener pastures off site
The 2010 Eventing season came to an end with our Halloween Starter event – did you catch some of the great costumes?! Pix soon to be on the website! The XC courses are now open and we will be putting portables away in the new few weeks.
HUGE thanks to all of you who volunteered to support our events. They were definitely successful and we look forward to a similar roster for 2011-three recognized and two starter events. Our recognized 2011 dates are June 4 & 5, August 13, 14 and October 22 and 23. The Training Level Three Day Event, the Classic, was again an exciting competition! Lead Clinician Eric Smiley was extremely popular with the group and we hope to have him return here next June for a clinic! Gayle also suggested contacting Julie Goodnight as a clinician, and Colleen Kelley, rider biomechanics guru, has also been consulted as a possible clinician. So something for every type of rider being seriously considered!! Stay tuned….
The new dressage competition area is almost finished! The stone is down, berms to be seeded and mulched and trees to be planted all before the end of November. That area will basically ‘settle’ thru the winter. Our hope is to have a dressage arena up on a regular basis once spring arrives J
The Winter Lesson Schedule is being finalized and soon to be posted on the website. Please refer to this as you plan your winter riding times, especially on evenings and weekends.
Several notes of interest as winter approaches....
GATES….if you are leaving and it is near dark, please close the driveway gates, upper AND lower; even if there are others here, it is a useful reminder that these gates are very important and need to be closed as darkness approaches; it could be your horse who gets loose and starts to wander!
LIGHTS….common sense please; lights are unnecessary during the daylight hours; in the evenings, please turn off any light that is not in use even if you didn’t turn it on—thanks! A motion sensor light is to placed in the lower gravel lot soon also.
IF YOU BREAK SOMETHING--please let us know; do not just leave it out there for a horse to step on, walk thru or whatever hazardous thing they might do!
Safeguard YOUR EQUIPMENT and keep you lockers secured; remember that Waredaca is NOT responsible for your personal items.
Please do NOT CLEAN TRAILERS into the dumpster or the lower parking lot; use the manure piles instead to avoid making an ugly mess.
Please WATCH YOUR SPEED and be extra cautious as you drive in and out of the various driveways; many people and DOGS are close-by who are not always looking out for oncoming vehicles.
The UPPER Jumping Arena will be returned to the schooling jumping arena now that the competitions are finished. Please remember that the ring will be set at the beginning of each week with planned exercises, distances and lines etc.
Once the ring has been set, you may use the jumps and can adjust the heights but please do NOT change the distances or placement of the fences. The cups and pins MUST be properly on the standards -- NOT ON THE GROUND!! Also when finished with the equipment please leave the ring in a courteous way for the next rider—not with random rails scattered all over the place and so on.
The BRIGHT COLORED PLASTIC RAILS are NOT TO BE USED AS TROTTING RAILS but rather use the wooden poles for this purpose.
If you are LEASING YOUR HORSE, please let Janey and Gayle know; also, any guests or friends who come and ride your horse, we ask that you have them sign a release form and place in either office for our records; thanks…
VETERINARY notes...When you schedule an appointment with the vet, please advise a Waredaca staff member of this and whether you plan to be present when your horse is being seen. We will assume that you will catch your horse and consult with the vet unless you indicate to us otherwise.
FALL DEER HUNTING SEASON....has begun. Safety tips....wearing something fluorescent orange during hunting season does make a huge difference. Stay in open areas where there is good visibility. Many riders sport a bell to let hunters know they are not a target!
